This one was a great build. The homeowner had a wooded backyard with serious potential - the kind of setting where the right deck design makes everything feel intentional. The goal was a multi-level layout that connected the upper door to a lower landing, then flowed out toward the yard. Clean transitions, solid structure, and materials that could hold up in a shaded, wooded environment without turning into a maintenance headache.
We went with TimberTech in Coconut Husk for the decking. It's a warm, earthy tone that sits really naturally against the treeline and the gray siding on the house. No painting, no staining, no sealing every couple years. Composite decking like this is built to handle moisture, shade, and temperature swings - exactly what a property like this deals with. The color stays consistent and the boards won't warp, rot, or splinter the way pressure-treated wood does over time.
For the railing, we used Westbury aluminum throughout. It's got a clean grid pattern that doesn't compete with the surroundings - it just frames the space. The dark finish pairs well with the Coconut Husk boards and gives the whole deck a finished, intentional look. Aluminum railing is also low maintenance by nature. No rust, no repainting. It just stays sharp.
The layout itself has a few levels working together - the main upper deck off the house, a lower platform that steps down toward the yard, and stair runs coming off both sides. That kind of design gives the space flexibility. You're not locked into one zone. There's room to spread out, whether that's for entertaining, relaxing, or just moving through the yard without going back inside.
Wooded properties are some of our favorites to build on. There's a natural palette to work with, and the right material choices make the deck feel like it belongs there rather than just sitting on top of the yard. TimberTech and Westbury together are a combination we trust - the products are quality, the install is clean, and the end result holds up.
